Marma points are key areas in the body. Damage or dysfunction in these points can cause serious negative consequences for the entire organism. Marma points are described in Ayurvedic texts, which are part of Indian medicine. These points are also found in the female genital organs – vaginal trigger points (yoni trigger points). What is their impact on the body and how can therapy be conducted using them?
What Are Yoni Marma Points?
Marma points are specific locations in the body where vital energy—prana—is concentrated. Physically, these are points where blood vessels, nerves, ligaments, muscles, or bones intersect. According to Ayurveda, these points are associated with physical and mental well-being. Marma point therapy involves gentle massage and stimulation of these points, which is similar to acupuncture originating from China. Marma points can also be targeted using various other therapies, including biomassage, acupressure, tantric massage, and sexual healing sessions. These points are more sensitive and prone to pain than other areas of the body. It is believed that damage to marma points can cause pain, deformities, and other severe health consequences, including possible death—depending on the location and severity of the injury. There are 107 marma points, with 11 located in the limbs, 26 in the torso, and 37 in the head and neck area. There are 8 distinctive marma points specific to female organs.
Marma Points and Yoni Trigger Points – History
Trigger points are tender, sensitive spots within muscles that can cause radiating pain. They can be observed as thickenings or nodules and manifest as stiffness, weakness, or muscle pain. Trigger points can develop due to prolonged non-ergonomic body positions or improper exercises.
Trigger points can form in the location of marma points, but they are not identical. Marma points can correspond to distant parts of the body, for instance, marma points in the feet can correspond to the lungs. Trigger points, on the other hand, can cause pain at a distance within the body but are related to pathology between the muscle and fascia in a specific location. Sometimes the cause of physical problems in one area of the body can originate in a distant area, for example, a neck issue may originate from the calf muscles. Both trigger points and marma points share tenderness and benefit from massage therapy.
Marma points from Ayurvedic Indian medicine can also be linked to the concept of acupuncture or acupressure points from Chinese medicine. Both systems mention life energy (prana, chi) that can stagnate in these points, and their therapy involves releasing this energy through stimulation by acupuncture, massage, or even visualization. Marma points were also used in martial arts, such as Kalaripayattu. Their name literally translates to "a point that can kill." They are precisely described in the works of Ayurveda by Acharya Charaka, Vagbhata, and Sushruta.
Vaginal Trigger Points
Trigger points can form within any muscle, but they are most commonly found in the neck, shoulders, scapulae, back, shoulders, and calves. Trigger points are also observed in urogynaecology within the muscles of the pelvic floor, vagina, anus, and surrounding tissues. They can cause various discomforts, such as vulvodynia, pain during intercourse, sitting, and walking, as well as discomfort during urination and defecation.
Trigger point therapy includes fascial massage, needling, cooling, or injections. A urogynecological physiotherapist can identify the presence of trigger points in the pelvic floor muscles and perform myofascial release treatments. Benefits can also be obtained from vaginal trigger point massage, such as yoni massage. Physical activity and pelvic floor muscle exercises play a significant role in preventing trigger points. Yoga, rolling, and stretching are also beneficial. Lear more about them in the tantra workshops in Europe led by us.
Punkty marma waginy
Acharya Sushruta identified 8 specific marma points for women. It is crucial to prevent damage to the vaginal marma points during surgeries and gynecological or urological procedures, as well as during childbirth. The following female yoni trigger points are distinguished:
- Sevani – marma corresponding to the perineum, particularly prone to damage during natural childbirth (in some cases, perineal tearing may occur); thus, proper conduct of the second stage of labor is crucial; this marma supports the muscles of the vagina and anus, so abnormalities in this area can lead to pain during intercourse, fecal or gas incontinence, and perineal injuries.
- Shukraharani Srotas (2 fallopian tubes) – play a role in infertility, susceptible to disruption during surgeries such as tubal ligation; damage in these marma points can result in chronic pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, ovarian cysts, and changes in libido.
- Phal (2 ovaries) – very sensitive to touch; injuries can cause, among other things, infertility; within the ovaries, there can be cysts, infections, tumors, and ruptures that need proper treatment to avoid serious health consequences.
- Gud (rectum and anus) – abnormalities in this marma point can affect both the functioning of the lower bowel (fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, irregular bowel movements) and the gynecological aspects, such as difficulties in sexual life or urination.
- Mutrasek (urethra) – the urethra is prone to various damages, mainly infections, which can spread to the bladder, vagina, or anus; the urethra can also be damaged during childbirth due to its proximity to the anterior vaginal wall.
- Mutravaha (2 ureters) – vaginal marma points within the ureters can be damaged during pelvic surgeries, including gynecological procedures; pregnancy also affects them – the ureters may elongate, bend, and shift, and urine retention may occur.
- Yoni (Tryavarta Yoni, internal genital organs: vagina, cervix, and uterus) – procedures in this area can cause damage such as perforation, tearing, bleeding into the peritoneum, and the presence of fibroids or adhesions in the uterus. Damage to the Yoni marma can cause pain, irregular menstruation, cervical insufficiency, and other complications. Strong pelvic floor muscles without trigger points are important for this area; maintaining it through yoni massage and regular exercises is advisable. There are several marma points inside the yoni.
- Basti (bladder) – infections are common in this area, which is also prone to mechanical damage during abdominal surgeries. It is closely related to the proper functioning of female organs.
In every case of abnormalities in the pelvic area, it is crucial to have a thorough understanding of female anatomy and the location of marma points in order to accurately diagnose and treat issues while considering the sensitivity of marma points.
Therapy for Vaginal Marma Points
Each marma point has its own name, serves a specific purpose, and requires a particular method of massage. Depending on the individual and the marma point, different oils may also be used. It is best for the initial massage to be performed by an Ayurvedic massage specialist to ensure it is done correctly and effectively. Self-massage of marma points can also be performed. Simply use an oil and stimulate the point with fingertip pads using circular motions. Ayurvedic massage of marma points offers numerous benefits – it not only affects the flow of energy in the body but is also effective in relieving muscle stiffness, improving blood circulation, removing lymph, and enhancing organ function.
Specifically, for vaginal marma points, yoni massage is used. Yoni is an Indian term for female genitalia, encompassing both its physical and spiritual, symbolic meanings. Yoni is also a source of life and a beginning. Yoni massage can positively affect the function of vaginal marma points and their surrounding areas, as well as relieve trigger points. It is often part of a full-body tantric massage and should be performed only by qualified practitioners.
Energy deposits can form in vaginal marma points due to stress, trauma, or unresolved emotions from daily life. Tantric massage helps release these emotions, cleanse the body's energy channels, remove energy deposits, raise vibrations, and improve overall physical and mental functioning. Additionally, yoni massage increases blood flow in the pelvic area, affects the innervation of the G-spot, and relaxes the muscles within the vagina – all of which contribute to not only releasing blocked emotions but also enhancing sexual life.
